Senior Finance and Operations Manager

About the Role

We are searching for an experienced Senior Finance and Operations Manager with experience working in a start-up environment to join the growing business team at Ulula. 

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Partnerships and Operations, and work closely with the CEO, back-office finance team, and Human Resource Manager. The candidate is expected to be self-driven and comfortable working independently but also cross-departmentally with key team members such as Program Managers. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the CEO in all financial reporting matters in addition to building and overseeing compliance of all operational, administrative, procurement, and financial aspects of the company.  

The successful candidate will have at least three to five years in finance and or accounting at a start-up. The candidate enjoys working in an occasionally unpredictable work environment and is driven to take initiative, solve problems, and work autonomously. 

    Financial Responsibilities 
    • Develop financial goals and targets with the CEO to build financial models to assist with forecasting, budgeting and fundraising
    • Support the CEO and back-office Finance team on future capital raises 
    • Prepare monthly updates and quarterly close -in collaboration with the finance officer and part-time CFO
    • Monitor and manage expenses within the determined budget
    • Manage grant fund contracts and all financial reporting requirements for USAID and GAC-funded programs
    • Produce monthly and quarterly financial reports for the executive team and board of directors
    Operations Responsibilities 
    • Ensure that all financial and operational activities are executed and delivered according to company policy and procedures 
    • Collaborate with the Program Managers to effectively manage all accounts receivables, primarily client invoices to ensure timely delivery and payment
    • Own the contractual process including drafting, negotiating, and approving client and partnerships agreements
    • Manage client-related vendor responsibilities such as ensuring compliance with client requirements and policies, fulfilling supplier due diligence and vendor onboarding needs
    • Review and approve all client agreements and act as signee 
    Additional Responsibilities as part of the Operations Team
    • Manage and support the Human Resources and Operations Manager  
    • Identify and lead ad-hoc initiatives such as defining, scoping, and implementing processes to improve internal compliance operations
     Your preferred profile:
    • Minimum 5+ years of finance and operations experience 
    • Thrive in a fast-paced (e.g. startup ) environment
    • Degree in BComm or similar such as Accounting, Finance, Math, Statistics, Economics or other quantitative disciplines 
    • Eager to automate and streamline internal processes to improve efficiency and collaboration
