We started Ulula after years of talking to communities and workers.
Ulula was founded after years of engaging with communities and workers in the agriculture and mining and energy industry in the Niger River Delta, the steppes of Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Rwanda and the highlands of Peru.
Antoine’s previous work in the raw materials and energy sector exposed him to the realities of how large scale projects impact rural communities; bringing economic opportunities as well as significant social, economic and cultural changes and disruptions. He recognized how the ubiquity of simple mobile phones offered a means for communities and workers to organize and an untapped opportunity for more continuous social dialogue with private sector and government organizations.
He created Ulula—which means reveal in Chichewa, a Southern African dialect—to foster more transparency in global supply chains and provide practical tools to enable workers and communities to improve social, labor and human rights impacts.
Since our founding, we have scaled our presence in the mining sector, and also entered the manufacturing, garment and textile, construction, electronics and agricultural industries to mitigate human rights risks in global supply chains.
Ulula supports responsible and transparent business practices through software and analytics to create a just society.
Ulula’s vision is a world where workers are actively engaged in informing and improving their working conditions. Where technology facilitates inclusive social dialogue to ensure workers can effectively and safely engage with suppliers, buyers and supporting third-parties to continuously drive progress towards better labor conditions in the workplace and improved livelihoods in the communities.
